DofE EXPEDITION TRAINING
DofE EXPEDITION TRAINING
Good training is the foundation for a successful expedition.
Before participants head out on their practice or qualifying expedition, they need to understand how to navigate, look after themselves and their team, manage their equipment and respond to the challenges they may encounter along the way.
At Learn Outdoors, we provide practical, engaging DofE expedition training for Bronze, Silver and Gold, helping young people develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to enjoy their expedition and meet the requirements of their Award.
WE COME TO YOU
Learn Outdoors has extensive experience delivering DofE expedition training for schools and groups.
Training can be delivered at a venue that's convenient for your school, whether that's in a classroom, on a school playing field, at a local outdoor space, at an off-site venue or a mixture of different locations.
We'll work with you to understand what your participants need and create a bespoke DofE training package around your school's requirements.
WHAT TRAINING CAN WE DELIVER?
We can provide all of your expedition training or simply deliver the elements where you need additional support.
Training can include:
✓ Navigation – map reading, grid references, compass skills and route finding
✓ Expedition planning – route planning, route cards and preparing for the expedition
✓ First aid – appropriate first aid skills and what to do in an emergency
✓ Food and cooking – meal planning, food preparation and cooking outdoors
✓ Equipment and packing – what to take, how to pack and how to manage expedition kit
✓ Campcraft – pitching tents, organising camp and campsite routines
✓ Clothing and personal equipment – understanding what to wear and how to prepare for different conditions
✓ Teamwork and communication – working effectively as an expedition team
✓ Risk management – understanding hazards, assessing risk and making sensible decisions
✓ Expedition safety – staying safe, dealing with problems and knowing when to ask for help
✓ Environmental awareness – responsible behaviour and minimising impact on the countryside (countryside code)
We can provide as much or as little support as your school needs.
A TRAINING PACKAGE DESIGNED AROUND YOU
Every school is different, and not every group needs exactly the same training.
Maybe you're starting a new DofE programme and want us to deliver the complete training package. Or perhaps you have experienced staff in school but would like specialist instructors to deliver particular elements.
That's why we don't offer a one-size-fits-all approach.
We'll talk to you about your participants, your existing DofE provision and what you want them to achieve. We can then put together a training package that provides exactly the support you need.
